Lakeside’s annual rodeo has celebrated the community’s rural heritage for more than 45 years, drawing 20,000 people every April. Cowles Mountain is a natural landmark that can be seen all over San Diego’s East County. Locals from eastern San Diego often hike up this mountain to find a panoramic view of Santee and the entire San Diego area.
