STARLINGS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH “HELP HAITI” THEME DRAWS 132 TEAMS

Edeline singsThe 13th annual event in San Diego (June 18-20, 2010) was a huge success from the get-go. The opening ceremony attended by over 1,000 featured Haiti earthquake victim, Edeline Felizor, who beautifully sang a solo following a rendition of “We Are the World,” backed up by Oceanside Starlings girls. This year’s theme of Starlings helping the children of Haiti was also evident with donations by Starlings clubs surpassing $10,000 and over $2,600 raised at the Nationals from jewelry made by Haitian orphans and street children.

On the court, City of LA 18,  Ridgecrest 14 Purple and UC San Diego 12 brought first-ever Gold Division Championships to their clubs. Perennial powerhouse San Gabriel kept its reputation intact as its 16 Red team took home the gold medal.

By many accounts, this was our best event yet: the overall level of play ever higher and the Starlings spirit of friendship and fun felt everywhere. For complete tournament results, click on the links below.
