About Starlings Volleyball
For 30 years, Starlings Volleyball, USA has worked to make high-quality club volleyball accessible to girls who may otherwise be unable to participate because of socioeconomic barriers.
Starlings is a national network of community-based volleyball clubs serving thousands of girls each year. Our programs combine quality volleyball training and competition with mentorship, leadership development, and Life Skills programming designed to create opportunities both on and off the court.
As Starlings enters its next phase of growth, we are seeking a Director of Club Expansion to help bring the Starlings opportunity to more girls and communities across the country.
The Opportunity
The Director of Club Expansion will lead the development and execution of Starlings Volleyball’s national club-growth strategy.
We are looking for a builder, relationship developer, strategic thinker, and problem-solver who can identify communities where Starlings can make a meaningful impact, recruit the right local leaders, and help establish sustainable new clubs.
Just as important, this person must build trust with the diverse communities Starlings serves, listening first and respecting each community's needs, culture, and circumstances.
What You’ll Lead
Strategic Club Expansion
- Develop and implement a measurable national growth plan for Starlings.
- Identify, research, and prioritize communities with strong potential for successful Starlings programs based on factors including economic need, youth demographics, volleyball access, facility feasibility, community partnerships, and availability of qualified local leadership.
- Establish clear goals and KPIs for expansion and report on progress regularly.
- Use data, research, and AI-enabled tools to identify promising markets, potential leaders, and partners, and to inform expansion decisions.
Club Director Recruitment & Development
- Build a proactive pipeline of prospective Starlings Club Directors through volleyball networks, schools, colleges, recreation programs, community organizations, Starlings alumni, USA Volleyball relationships, and other sources.
- Develop and manage a structured process for identifying, recruiting, interviewing, vetting, selecting, and onboarding new Club Directors.
- Look beyond volleyball experience alone to identify leaders who demonstrate strong character, organizational ability, community relationships, cultural awareness, commitment to the Starlings mission, and the ability to build sustainable programs.
New Club Development & Launch
- Guide prospective clubs from initial evaluation through successful launch.
- Work with new Club Directors to address critical startup needs including facilities, budgeting, nonprofit and affiliation requirements, USA Volleyball relationships, coach and athlete recruitment, equipment and uniforms, registration, compliance, marketing, financial assistance, competition planning, and Starlings Life Skills programming.
- Provide structured follow-up during the early stages of a new club to help establish a foundation for long-term sustainability.
Community & Organizational Relationships
- Build strong relationships with Club Directors, community leaders, schools, recreation programs, nonprofit organizations, USA Volleyball Regions, and other partners who can support Starlings expansion.
- Represent Starlings across communities of varied racial, ethnic, cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, listening to local needs while upholding the mission, standards, and expectations of the national organization.
Measuring Success
The Director of Club Expansion will be accountable for measurable growth and will help establish and track KPIs including:
- Priority markets researched and qualified
- Prospective Club Directors identified and recruited
- New clubs entering development and successfully launching
- New teams and athletes served
- Expansion into new communities, states, and USA Volleyball Regions
- New-club retention and sustainability
- Facility and community partnerships established
- Conversion rate from prospective Club Director to launched club
Success will not be measured simply by the number of clubs opened, but by Starlings’ ability to establish strong, sustainable programs that expand affordable volleyball opportunities and positively impact girls’ lives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in organizational growth, program development, nonprofit leadership, youth sports, community development, business development, or a related field
- Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse populations and communities
