Brand & Logo Use

The Starlings Volleyball USA name, logo, and brand identity are protected organizational assets. Consistent and appropriate use of the Starlings brand is essential to maintaining the integrity, reputation, and recognition of the organization nationwide.

Director Responsibility: Directors are responsible for ensuring that all use of the Starlings name, logo, and branding within their club complies with organizational guidelines.

Important Reminder: The Starlings brand represents the mission, values, and history of the organization. Proper use protects both the organization and all affiliated clubs.

Use of Name & Identity

Clubs may use the Starlings name as part of their club identity for official Starlings-related activities.

Approved usage includes:

  • Starlings + City/Region name (e.g., “Starlings [City Name]”)
  • use of Starlings name in official team communications
  • use of Starlings branding in approved club materials

Brand Requirement: The Starlings name may not be used in a way that misrepresents affiliation, ownership, or independence from the national organization.

Director Responsibility: Ensure that all public-facing representations of the club accurately reflect its affiliation with Starlings Volleyball USA.

Logo Usage Guidelines

The Starlings logo may only be used in its approved format and may not be altered in any way.

Prohibited modifications include:

  • changing colors
  • stretching or distorting the logo
  • removing or altering elements
  • combining the logo with other graphics without approval

Brand Protection Requirement: Unauthorized modification or misuse of the Starlings logo is not permitted.

Director Responsibility: Ensure that all logo use (digital, print, apparel) follows official brand guidelines and that parents understand they do not have permission to use the Starlings name or logo to create or purchase any third-party gear.

Uniform Requirements

Starlings Volleyball USA has an official uniform partnership with Adidas.

All Starlings teams are required to:

  • purchase uniforms through the approved Starlings uniform ordering process
  • wear ONLY official Adidas uniforms during ALL competitions
  • avoid wearing competitor brand gear (e.g., Nike socks, kneepads) with uniforms when possible

Document / Form Required: Uniform orders must be placed through the designated Starlings representative (Jeff Greenough).

Brand Requirement: Teams may not compete in non-approved uniforms or apparel that does not meet Starlings branding and partnership requirements.

Director Responsibility: Ensure all teams are properly outfitted in approved uniforms prior to the first date of competition and allow for a 30 to 45 day window once uniforms are paid for and the order is confirmed.

Best Practice: Uniform Planning

  • collect uniform sizes and fees early in the season
  • allow a 30 to 45 day production window prior to first competition
  • order additional uniforms if planning to add players
  • order the same uniform style across teams within the same age division
  • assign unique jersey numbers across teams within an age division

Best Practice Tip: Standardizing uniforms and numbering allows flexibility for player movement between teams and prevents duplicate jersey number conflicts.

Apparel & Spirit Wear

All Starlings apparel, including practice gear and spirit wear, must be ordered through the approved Starlings ordering process with Jeff Greenough.

Requirements include:

  • all apparel must be produced through the approved vendor and process
  • Starlings name and logo may not be used by outside or third-party vendors
  • parents and families may not create, purchase, or distribute team gear using the Starlings name or logo independently

Brand Protection Requirement: Apparel and spirit wear may NOT be created or purchased outside of the approved process.

Director Responsibility: Ensure all apparel orders are compliant and coordinated through the approved vendor.

Sponsorship & Co-Branding

Clubs may not independently add sponsorship or co-branding to uniforms or team gear.

If a Director wishes to include sponsorship:

  • request approval from the Starlings National Office
  • if approved, complete all branding and production through the official Starlings ordering process (Jeff Greenough)

Brand Requirement: DO NOT create or produce custom uniforms, spirit wear, or team gear outside of the approved process.

Director Responsibility: Ensure all sponsorships and branding align with Starlings policies and are properly approved and produced.

Social Media & Public Representation

Clubs and teams represent the Starlings brand in all public-facing communication.

This includes:

  • social media accounts
  • websites
  • promotional materials
  • public events

Directors and coaches must ensure:

  • accurate representation of Starlings affiliation
  • appropriate use of logos and branding
  • content reflects the mission and values of the organization

Brand Requirement: Content that is inappropriate, misleading, or inconsistent with Starlings values may be subject to review and removal.

Unauthorized Use & Enforcement

Unauthorized use of the Starlings name or logo is not permitted.

Examples include:

  • use by non-affiliated programs
  • use after termination or disbandment
  • use on unapproved merchandise
  • altered or misrepresented branding

Brand Protection Requirement: Starlings Volleyball USA reserves the right to take action to protect its name and brand.
Director Responsibility: Report any misuse of the Starlings brand to the National Office.
