Registration Steps

1. Register for a LeagueApps account (if you don’t have one already)
2. Complete the LeagueApps registration for tryouts via the link(s) above
3. Pay the tryout fee to complete your registration
4. Print, complete, and sign the Medical Release and Liability Waiver found here: https://nevolleyball.org/wp-content/uploads/Medical-Release-WITHOUT-Notary.pdf  (bring this with you to tryouts)
5. Sign up for a NERVA/USA Volleyball membership (minimum of the $15 tryout membership, but a full season membership will work also).  All of these options can be found here: https://nevolleyball.org/junior-memberships/   (please bring a copy of your membership card with you to tryouts)

About our club

Starlings Greater Hartford is a non-profit volleyball club for high school girls and boys in Connecticut, with a focus on the Greater Hartford area, but open to the entire state of Connecticut.

VISION STATEMENT

The Vision for Starlings Greater Hartford is to provide at-risk, disadvantaged youth with equal access to quality volleyball programs, regardless of financial hardship, ethnicity or skill level through exposure to training and participation in the sport of volleyball. Starlings uses the platform of the sport to empower within each player academic excellence, healthy lifestyle choices and excellent character.

Practice and Season Details

Practices will be held twice per week either in Middletown, CT or West Hartford, CT, and will begin after tryouts, and run up until the last tournament.

Please be aware that our practices are at a private high school and private college, so our practice schedule will fluctuate based on gym availability, and days may differ from week to week.

Fees and financial help

Girl’s club teams offered in the 2026-2027 club season will be determined based on signups and tryouts.  Girls are responsible for their USA Volleyball and AAU memberships, as well as travel expenses.  The tuition of $850 per player includes tournament entry fees, two player uniform packages and practice t-shirts, gym rentals for practice, and club administrative expenses.  The tryout fee of $50 is not included in the tuition listed above.

Starlings Volleyball, USA Financial Assistance Application

Starlings Volleyball, USA helps with registration fees for youth, who without financial assistance, would be unable to participate in the Starlings volleyball programs. Starlings Volleyball, USA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with limited funding available for assistance.  No guarantee of assistance is implied by this application. Starlings Volleyball, USA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex or disability in its program and activities.

Eligibility

1. Applicant must be enrolled in school (kindergarten through 12th grade).
2. Parent/Guardian and participant commit that the athlete will attend a minimum of 90% of all scheduled practices and games.
3. Application must be completed by Parent or Guardian.
4. Applicant must submit a copy of last report card.  C average or above is required to receive funding.

Qualifications

Financial assistance will be considered for eligible players meeting one or more of the criteria below:

1. Receive assistance from programs such as: Food Stamps, Medicaid, SSI, Foster Care, WIC and can provide written documentation of participation in these programs.
2. Provide recommendation by school representative, social worker, youth community center workers or other social service representative.
3. Provide a written statement of immediate financial hardship explaining the current situation.  Starlings recognizes that a family may not be receiving formal assistance from the programs mentioned above, yet financial assistance may still be needed to participate in a Starlings program.  In these instances, the Starlings Board will consider the financial hardship statement to determine assistance eligibility.  Please provide any supporting documentation that may support the facts in your financial hardship statement.
4. *REQUIRED* A copy of the participant’s last report card.  C average or above is required to receive funding.
5. *REQUIRED* Short written statement (one page or less) by participant as to why they would like to play on a Starlings volleyball team.

Procedure

1. Applications will be completed by Parent/Guardian.
2. Commitment statements will be signed by both Parent/Guardian and participant.
3. Application and supporting documents will be turned into Club Director for review.
4. Club Director will submit to Starlings Volleyball, USA for approval and processing.
5. Starlings Volleyball, USA will consider all applications completed with all necessary documentation.
6. The amount of assistance awarded (if any) may be partial or full request depending on the number of applicants and the amount funds available.
7. Funds will be deposited in the Club Account designated to assist with the applicant’s season fees.
8. Parent/Guardian will be notified as to the amount (if any) of the award.

• Club Refund Policy
  • Starlings is the most reasonably priced club experience available in CT.  In order to keep our costs so low while being subject to the same expenses as clubs costing 2-3 times our tuition, we must have a rigid refund policy where refunds are not given for anything other than verified medical reasons.
    • For a verified medical reason (verified by doctor’s note) the following refund policy applies:
      • Drop before team selection will receive a refund of anything paid minus $50 tryout fee
      • Drop after accepting a team position offer due to a medical reason verified by a doctor’s note, 50% reduction in full season tuition if prior to 1/1, 25% reduction in full season tuition if prior to 1/30.
      • No refunds on 1/30 or later.
    • Drop for non-medical reason, no refunds.  Full season tuition balance will still be due.
